Disability: A word that is met with lifted eyebrows, quizzical faces, and unasked questions. A visible disability? All that, only heightened.
When I mention Diabetes or Cancer, almost each and every one of you knows what I speak of. But when I say clubfoot, I’m met with perplexed faces that evidently do not know about the said abnormality.
When a child is born with clubfoot, the atmosphere in the said household is, almost evidently, apprehensive. To see their child not being born into the set ideal of ‘normal’ seems to baffle certain families, which urges them to go as far as to consider abandonment of the child.
Clubfoot, like a common cold and cough, can be completely cured. The key: prompt and responsible action.
